What to do if you have lost your cat:
Although it is a traumatic experience when your cat goes missing, here are some things to do to increase your chances of getting him/her back as quickly as possible.

Look in all rooms in the house, your shed and garage, and any place you can think of that your cat may hide.  Ask your neighbours to check all their out buildings etc.  Check the found section in your local newspaper.

Do inform your local veterinary practices, your local authority health department, all local animal organisations, the police, your postman and milkman, and any other regular callers.

Advertise your cat as missing in all local shops and your post office with a photograph if possible, and place an advert in the lost section of your local newspaper.  Put a note through neighbours doors asking, have you seen this cat.

Offer a reward, for information as to the whereabouts of your cat.  Report your cat as missing as soon as possible, and don't forget to notify these people if  your cat returns.

If you wish to report a cat as lost to us, please see the details on the "Lost register" page by clicking on the "Lost register" button on the navigation bar at the top of the page, or use the text link below

What to do if I find a cat:
Firstly, establish if it is actually a found cat.  For reasons probably best known to cats, some cats do tend to wander, returning to their own homes either when the mood takes them or their stomach tells them it is tea time.  Ask around all the neighbours etc, someone may have acquired a new cat that you are not familiar with.

If you do think it is a genuine lost cat, try to establish the sex and age of the cat if possible.  Also write down a description of the cat, it's colour, special distinguishing features and note if it has a collar with any identifying information attached.  You will need these details when you report it to your local animal rescue society.  Cats Protection, R S P C A, animal shelter etc.

Please don't expect any of these organisations to fetch your found cat in straight away.  Like us, most of them are usually full to capacity, and you may have to wait before a place can be found.  In the meantime please give the cat food and water and shelter from the elements.  If you think it requires veterinary treatment please tell this to whoever you report it to.
